This week’s question (as hosted by Parajunkee’s View and Alison Can Read): What book could you not get into that everyone else loved? I’ll give you three (YA, Contemporary, and Classic).
I know everyone loved it, but I could not get into Daughter of Smoke and Bone, I finally gave up about halfway through.
The End by Salvatore Scibona was critically beloved, but it’s appeal was lost on me.
Tess of the D’Ubervilles was my least favorite classic book (by an author I usually like)!
And from Crazy-for-books, this week’s task is highlighting my favorite review from the past month (which actually went up yesterday). I did a review of Stephen King’s Pet Sematary, which I loved (again). Honorable mention goes to Say Nice Things about Detroit by Scott Lasser.

i had to read tess of the d’ubervilles back in high school and i could not get into it! another book i had to read in high school and college that i hated was the heart of darkness. hated it!! i’ve been wanting to read some steven king for a while, i honestly haven’t read any of his! what would you recommend? 🙂

My personal favorite is Bag of Bones, but “classic” King books that are great are IT and The Stand. If scary isn’t really your thing I would give Bag of Bones or 11/22/63 a try! Thanks for stopping by!

I saw that everyone was reading Smoke and Bones but even when I read the synopsis I felt like I wouldn’t like it. Glad to know there’s more than just me out there that didn’t like it.

Actually Daughter of Smoke and Bone was one of my favorite reads of the year. You had to get into the oddness of it though 🙂

I haven’t read Tess of the D’Ubervilles, but I did watched the serie on BBC & I really liked it. It was sad, but still nice. 😉 Sorry to hear that you didn’t like the book.

I haven’t seen the series, but I do enjoy most of the BBC’s adaptations. I might have to check it out. Tess of the D’Ubervilles always disappointed in comparison with how much I enjoyed Jude the Obscure and Return of the Native.

I actually loved Daughter of Smoke & Bone… it’s some of the best world building I’ve seen in a long time, and the language is beautiful.
So knowing more about why you chose it would be helpful!!

I didn’t review the first two because I did not finish them – so it seemed unfair. The third I read a long time ago and never felt like “back reviewing” so to speak. At some point I’d like to reconsider reading Daughter of Smoke and Bone because it is something that I would normally like – that’s why I picked it up initially.
