The Christmas season, and December in general, is my favorite time of the year. I love the cold weather, snow, winter clothes, the necessity of boots, the Santa and polar bear Coca-Cola ads, the music (but only in December please, Christmas is not in October), the giving of gifts, the list goes on and on. I even sleep better when it’s cold. This week’s top ten list (as hosted by The Broke and The Bookish) is the ‘Top Ten Books I Wouldn’t Mind Santa Bringing Me’. A few are these are books that I’ve read and would like to own, some I’ve just heard great things about. So if anyone is feeling particularly generous…

Great list! I remember enjoying reading Drood a few years ago. I’ve been meaning to pick up The Painted Veil but I feel like I should be in the right mood to read it xP Loved the adaptation they did a few years ago with Edward Norton and Naomi Watts (even if it is a bit different from the books)

Heft is really good. It almost made my top ten books of the year but I suspect got squeezed out because I read it soon after The Art of Fielding… you know when you read a bunch of really, really good books one after another and then review them relative to each other? That.

I’m in the process of making my Ideal Bookshelf (possibly taking it too seriously) and The Art of Fielding made it on. Heft probably won’t beat it, but I am curious to read it. Good to know you liked it, that bodes well for the book.

The Sisters Brothers is fantastic! It’s one of the books I push on people to read, but I’ve since determine you must have particular sense of humor to think it’s hilarious.

I just read about Drood somewhere, I’d like to read it too. I’ve only read Terror by Dan Simmons, and I do want to try others. The 100 Year Old Man Who Climbed Out The Window and Disappeared sounds like something I’ll read.

The Terror is the only Dan Simmons I’ve read, but he is a local author for me so I am tempted to give him another chance – Drood sounded like the best bet.

I read The Painted Veil this year and really enjoyed it – I have the movie here to watch too. I’ve also heard some really excellent things about The 100 Year Old Man, might have to keep an eye out for that one myself as well.

I have, somehow, not heard of any of the books on this list with the exception of Maugham and deWitt. I might just have to go on an ebook request spree at the library…
