Authors I’ve discovered in 2012: A top ten list

This week’s top ten list: “Top Ten Favorite New-To-Me Authors I Read In 2012” (as hosted by The Broke and The Bookish). This guarantees that there will be no mention of John Irving, Richard Russo, or Stephen King – after this sentence of course. I’ve discovered several new authors and “met” a few bloggers who I have happily been able to discuss books with (this, of course, guarantees my to be read pile will never actually get under control). Here are ten of my favorite authors I’ve discovered in 2012 (in no particular order):

10. Daniel Woodrell
9. Douglas Nicholas
8. Adam McOmber
7. Amber Dermont
6. Carol Rifka Brunt
5. Liza Klaussman
4. Lance Weller
3. Patrick Sommerville
2. Patrick deWitt
1. Sara J. Henry

Who is your favorite discovery of 2012?

  1. I wrote my post ahead of time, but if I hadn’t I definitely would have included Daniel Woodrell. Winter’s Bone was the singular most powerful book I read this year. I can’t believe I waited so long to read it. Confession time – I only read it because I saw Jennifer Lawrence was in the movie. I’m terrible, I know, but hey, at least it got me to read it!

An aside: my best friend is related to Adam McOmber. So random. I don’t really read that genre, but knowing that I decided to add it to my TBR.

    1. Random, but awesome. I’m not related (or know anyone) related to anyone of literary note, how fun. And Jennifer Lawrence is amazing in that movie. I watched the movie first too, I didn’t even know it was a book until I saw the “based on…”.

  2. I haven’t read any of these yet, but several are on my wish list. Especially Tell the Wolves I’m Home. Winter’s Bone is such a great movie, and I’m interesting in seeing how the book compares.

  3. You made me add several books to my already completely out of control wish list … I hadn’t heard of most of these books before. I’ve added your blog to my reader – we seem to share a love for King and Irving 🙂

    1. It was one of my first reads this year (a Christmas gift last year). I’d like to see it adapted to, the dialogue reminded me a bit of O Brother Where Art Thou? which is one of my favorite movies.

  4. I haven’t actually read any of these yet but several are on my TBR list now. The White Forest, Winter’s Bone, Tell the Wolves I’m Home, and Something Red are all books I plan on getting around to eventually. Glad to see them on a favorite list of 2012! Gives me high hopes they’ll be fantastic. 🙂
