10. I find all the criticism of Daniel Murphy to be ridiculous (baseball player, NY Mets). He took three days off for the birth of his son and missed the first two games of the season. Fans and commentators are upset that he wanted to witness the birth of his son; they feel he shouldn’t be allowed paternity leave. It’s ridiculous and embarrassing that anyone feels that way. And from the perspective of a woman, I would be beyond angry if my partner willingly chose to skip the birth of our child.
09. I’ve never been particularly interested in perfume, but I did develop a mild interest after reading The Perfume Love: A Personal History of Scent by Denyse Beaulieu. I wear one perfume occasionally: Library of Flowers – Honeycomb. The more I thought about it, the more I found the idea of this to be absurdly appropriate. How did I end up choosing this scent? Is it because I’m a horticultural librarian and the name appealed to me? I don’t know…

07. Which literary couple are you? I got Lady Chatterley and Oliver Mellors. You don’t need to be a part of a couple to take this (according to me, at any rate), but it is pretty funny. Or me being identified with Lady Chatterley is, at the very least.
06. I’m going to BEA in New York (this May). I’m so excited, I haven’t been to New York since my early twenties and I have spent any real time there since I was a teenager. I’ll get to meet Leah and Shannon and several others I’m very excited.
(My beach vacation is also booked for the summer. I practically cannot wait. As is tradition, I’m going to tweet all of my lovely beach pictures to Kate in the middle of her winter. It’s only fair.)

03. I have been car shopping for the last week and a half, I last did this ten years ago when I graduated from college, it was far more exciting then. However, I’ve neither maimed anyone nor spontaneously combusted, so it’s been successful.

I have a friend on a Facebook who is a huge fan of quotes, I usually derisively roll my eyes, but I always knew I liked Henry Rollins (Wrong Turn 2 was lovely): I want a soul mate who can sit me down, shut me up, tell me ten things I don’t already know, and make me laugh. Ugh car shopping. That’s something I need to do this spring. I want a new car, but I don’t want to have to scour lots and deal with haggling. Why can’t a new car just appear in my driveway?

It’s awful. I hate it. I really, really HATE it. On Friday, I had an appointment to test drive a car and the salesman was thirty minutes late. As I’m packing up my stuff to leave he walks out, ready to go. I was like “no…” and left.

For the literary couples quiz, I got: Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark from “The Hunger Games.” I wish I knew what this said about me and the imaginary other half of my couple.
p.s. Eat at Caracas on 7th Street near 1st Avenue. So good. This is a must. There is also V-Nam Cafe on 1st Avenue (bw 1st & 2nd).

It’s just so disgusting. You only get one chance to witness a birth. The whole thing was asinine. I like how Boomer is scrambling to apologize – too late asshat. Anyway…
I could picture getting Katniss for myself. If only because I tend to be very independent and need a fair amount of space in any relationship. I can’t believe I’m comparing myself to a YA novel. But Lady Chatterley I am not. I love to know how that’s calculated and which questions indicated which couple. It probably was the one I answered about only see my significant other at night (I was thinking “well, I work all day…” probably not what the question was implying).
Keep any suggestions coming. I’ll be there from the 27th-1st and while I’m sure the conference will take up a lot of time, food is more important.

In the same area as the aforementioned is Cafe Himalaya for Tibetan food. 1st Street near 1st Ave. Essentially, food is really good in the East Village.
If you find yourself uptown, Roti Roll on Amsterdam Ave & 109 St is tasty India to-go.
Book Expo is at the Javits Center, which does not have good food (only crummy, overpriced). So I recommend to bring something with you. Unfortunately, that area is very far west and not around much. Sort of a desert for anything. A few blocks away is the Tick Tock Diner…not bad at all and also if you google it, you can read about the murder-for-hire plot involving a manager. If you go up to Hell’s Kitchen, there are some better options, but the theatre distric/midtown can be difficult, expensive, and disappointing.

I am so with you on the Murphy thing. There are like 162 games per season (I admit, I googled it)! My God, it wasn’t like the World Series or something. Which brings up a whole other issue- do you let your husband skip the birth of your child to play in the World Series? Maybe if it’s game 7? Hmmm….

The April Fool’s joke was funny, because it is so true! My Dad was just telling me yesterday that he feels like people reply to his e-mails without even reading them, because they ask questions that had already been answered in the e-mail, which they would have known if they had read the whole thing. I don’t understand this.

Wallander is epic, every time I watch it I love sweden (and Scandinavia in general) more and more. There is a British version too, which once again proves Kenneth Branagh is a god.
Have fun at BEA! Wish I could go, damn England for being so far away and damn New York for being so pricey.

I’m trying to decide if attending BEA should be a goal for the next five years, or ten years. Hopefully five. You’ll have so much fun!
I got some couple from Lord of the Rings, which, meh. I get the feeling most of those buzzfeed quizzes are designed for young adults. I also answered “at night” because the only time we get to ourselves is after the kids go to bed. Not because of any sexy times. We are too tired for that 🙂
