I’ll keep it simple.
In a word: ick.
Great dialogue though. I liked it. You can find the story of Jim Trusdale, Sheriff Barclay, and the silver dollar in the New Yorker. It’s free.
Pair with whiskey. I can’t explain how much I want to try this Root Canal (root beer float with whiskey – find the full recipe at Pepper). Yum.
I love the New Yorker for its short stories! Thanks for the link… though your “ick” scares me. 😉

The story is not scary at all, it’s just a wee bit gross in a couple of places. Overall, it’s pretty good.

Just to clarify…is that ick a “crappy story” ick, or a “scary as hell” ick?

Neither, in this case. It’s a “he manged to fit a few gross parts in a short story” kind of ick. Nothing bad, but I cringed a little.

The story was not quite what I expected and like the Sheriff, I actually fell for the bluff!
