The Breakfast Club + Melancholia = We All Looked Up
Quite the combination, but well worth the read. This young adult novel tells the story of four very different teenagers trying to make the best of the few weeks they have left (before the world ends). Wallach is a beautiful writer. He sold me early on with this line: “But if she’d learned anything in the past year, it was that no amount of suffering could save you from more of it.”
And, teenager or not, sometimes life just feels like that*.
*My step-father passed away rather unexpectedly while I was camping last week. And sometimes it seems that no matter what, it’s always too soon. So enjoy some comfort food (mine is pizza with basil), raise a glass, and hug your loved ones.

It’s a mix, and I think pretty realistic, so I’d recommend it. I’d spend it with my family.

So sorry for your loss Rory, but thank you for sharing that line and this book. It means the world to hear something you can relate to in tough times. My first two weeks of June have consisted of that exact quote. A friend of 20 years ended up with emergency surgery and faces another soon, both life threatening. My uncle passed away suddenly last week and yesterday found out my husband’s skin cancer is back. Life just doesn’t give you a break, does it?
