This was not a great reading year for me. I won’t go as far as saying these are the best of a bad lot, because that’s not true, but my reading slump was so pervasive that, at times, it felt that way. That being said, I quite enjoyed the following books. 08. American Meteor // Norman Lock. “ShedsContinue reading “2015 Favorites.”

Debut Novels To Look For: Early 2016 Edition
For me, there’s something very hopeful about debut novels. New opportunities to read fresh ideas written in new, (hopefully) original voices make me a very happy reader. Here’s what I’m looking forward to in the first few months of 2016. 10. The Children’s Home // Charles Lambert. “For fans of Shirley Jackson, Neil Gaiman, Roald Dahl,Continue reading “Debut Novels To Look For: Early 2016 Edition”
Scary Stories to Read in the Dark
Call it an odd coincidence if you will, but Casper mattresses has been popping up in my Facebook feed over the last few weeks. Typically I ignore most of the sponsored ads, as it can be creepy how well targeted those ads really are (they have my demographic nailed down). It made me wonder howContinue reading “Scary Stories to Read in the Dark”
Once Bitten: Favorite Werewolf Fiction
I must admit to being slightly astounded by the sheer number of werewolf (and shifter) romance books out there. Apparently that’s sexy…* Despite my determination to be on top of the romance trends, this one has eluded me. Regardless, it is nearing Halloween, and it’s the time of the year I want werewolves to be scary.Continue reading “Once Bitten: Favorite Werewolf Fiction”

{Like This, Read That} The Stand by Stephen King
The Stand is considered one of King’s best books for a reason – it’s just that good. While there are moments of horror and the grotesque, it’s neither particularly scary, nor overly bloody. It’s lengthy, but well written. Oddly enough, it was originally published is a heavily (by King standards) version coming in at 823 pages.Continue reading “{Like This, Read That} The Stand by Stephen King”
Things I’m Looking Forward to This Fall
Pumpkins. Apple cider. Sweaters. Tights. Boots. Soups and chowders. Knit hats. Halloween. Rustling leaves. And reading! I always love reading, but autumn is my favorite time of year to do so. There’s something about the cool, dark nights that make it so comforting. I’ve been trying to catch up on my backlist reading, as wellContinue reading “Things I’m Looking Forward to This Fall”
Road Trip!
A few weeks ago I did a list on cars + books. It was easy (and I’m all about easy, I’d try to tell you otherwise, but in the interest of keeping it real…). So, thinking along those same lines, I decided to do road trips. Who doesn’t love a good road trip?! I actually wentContinue reading “Road Trip!”
Let the Good Times Roll
So not all of these car and/or car rides are enjoyable, so “good times” is not applicable for all of the following, but there’s no question that cars often feature prominently in fiction. I love automotive literature – give me a scintillating car manual any day – as much as the next person, but IContinue reading “Let the Good Times Roll”
Going Broke: A Love Story
As a librarian, I will never be rich. Not even a little. But I’d probably spend all my money on books anyway, so that may be a good thing. Despite my small net worth, I still manage to continue filling up my bookshelves (as one does). Four sentences in and I know you are already dyingContinue reading “Going Broke: A Love Story”
